Her stand-up-comedy-like teaching style, mixed in with powerful insight and astuteness, is only a one reason why her classes haven't had empty seats in the 22 years she's been teaching at ASU. In fact, many students look back at their time in Sex Love and Romance in the Media and Mass Media in Society and consider them turning points in their lives.
"It's very fulfilling that I've touched so many lives," she says modestly.
After sitting with Dr. Galician for just a few minutes, it's easy to see why she's so popular. She's energetic, funny, and comes from such a successful, professional background that it's surprising to see her teaching.
Dr. Galician started her career young, she attended the Professional Children's School in New York City. Later she held positions as a newspaper columnist, book editor, and a nighttime, television talk show host.
"I've interviewed Patty Duke, Robert Gulet, John Rockefeller, and Jack Demsey" she says.
If a list of must-see-professors existed at ASU, a list comprised of teachers that not only embody what it means to truly be a teacher, but also generated in order to juxtapose the quality level of professors, she would surely be among those at the very top.
In this issue of the Underground we've composed a list of teachers that would make our staff's list. Granted, this list is limited to the classes that our staff members have taken, and should be taken as such. We feel that professors, especially the great ones, don't often receive accolades for being the best at what they do.
